Atlantic Offshore Wind Coalition

If developed responsibly and supported by transmission infrastructure offshore wind can cut emissions, create skilled local jobs, strengthen coastal economies, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of Atlantic Canada’s energy sector.

Atlantic Canada has some of the best offshore wind resources in the world. This natural resource holds real potential to support Canada’s transition to clean energy. With good planning and cooperation between provinces, offshore wind can help make our energy more reliable, lower pollution, and support Canada’s climate goals.

Offshore wind in Atlantic Canada could also be a “nation-building” project. Because of the size of the resource, it could produce large amounts of clean energy for many years. This could help power homes and industries, create jobs, support local businesses, and strengthen connections between provinces.

How these projects are developed matters. They must coexist with fisheries, protect marine ecosystems, respect Indigenous rights and involve coastal communities so people are informed, heard, and can shape decisions. Done well, offshore wind can advance climate, strengthen local communities and uphold strong environmental standards.

The Atlantic Offshore Wind Coalition works to help make this possible by promoting clear rules, good decision-making processes, meaningful public and stakeholder dialogue, and long-term benefits for communities.
